The autobiographical poem by Carol Ann Duffy focuses on her moving from Scotland to England as a child. The young Duffy is reluctant to leave the comforts of Glasgow behind and worries about fitting in with other children. As the poem develops we get a sense that Duffy is slowly adapting to her new surroundings. Throughout the poem Duffy deals with themes of change, childhood and identity. At the end of the poem, Duffy is still unclear as to her identity and therefore encourages readers to question their cultural roots.
