The poem by Carol Ann Duffy describes the relationship between Anne Hathaway and her husband, William Shakespeare. Written in first person, Anne Hathaway comments on the gesture of being left the 'second best bed' in her husband's will. To some this would appear an insult, however throughout the poem it is made clear that their relationship was one full of love and passion.
