Congratulations to the pupils who have been elected to the 2017/18 Senior Leadership Team and a huge well done to all the candidates who took part.

Thank you to all the younger pupils who helped support the election process by scoring the Hustings, being on the Interview Panel and helping with the vote on Wednesday.

Although an S6 Social Committee has not been created as of yet (chaired by a member of the new leadership team) it is important that information on your opinions is gathered early to allow the Social Committee once formed to have information at their fingertips to make informed decisions.

Please complete this survey so that the new Committee (when formed after the summer) can gain some initial feedback on location, dates and venue ideas.

Jerba Campervans is a family run business based in North Berwick and are looking to employ an Apprentice Finishing Carpenter.

They employ a team of 12 and specialise in converting the VW T6 into a fully finished campervan. Jerba Campervans are an innovative and growing business who take pride in having an inclusive workforce culture where all employees are encouraged to input ideas on improving both our products and the way that we work.

Work Environment:

You will be part of a team of 10 workshop based staff. Located in North Berwick in a 650 sq m heated and insulated building that was constructed in 2014 and is currently being extended.

What might a day in this job look like?

In the early days of the job you will be shadowing experienced carpenters and learning the fundamental building blocks that will form the base for turning you into a skilled finishing carpenter.  You will be given carpentry tasks right from the start of the job and as your skills develop over the 4 year apprenticeship you will eventually move to the complete fitting out of all furniture to brand new VW Transporter T6 vans.

Our working day starts at 8am and finishing at 4pm with a 30 minute lunch break.

The Ultimate STEM Challenge 2017/18 is now open.

The Ultimate STEM Challenge is a national competition brought to you by BP, the Science Museum and STEM Learning.

We are asking teams of two to four students aged 11 to 14 from across the UK to put their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills to the test and win some fantastic prizes.

By completing and submitting one of the following challenges.

Challenge 1: Create an efficient way of generating electricity from moving water.

Challenge 2: Grow indoor plants using a sustainable method that conserves water

Challenge 3: Build a system that generates and captures biomethane from food waste.

Mike Stoane Lighting was founded in 1995, when Mike started making lights on a lathe in his lock-up in Edinburgh. We have outgrown the lock-up now, but our lights are still made by us, in Scotland. This ensures excellent quality and flexibility and is something we are very proud of. On a typical day, you would be working in an office as part of a small team; you will be processing orders, issuing quotes and helping our customers. Closing Date: Tuesday 4 July.

Thomson Bethune once again have pleasure in offering school leavers permanent employment whilst they participate in the Trainee Quantity Surveyor Programme and obtain their QS qualifications at either Edinburgh Napier University or Glasgow Caledonian University.

The benefits of this programme are that students would be paid during their University studies and given relevant, practical experience (on and off-site) in the working environment.  They will work alongside other trainees of a similar age and will be involved in some very prestigious large scale new build and refurbishment projects across Scotland.  Details of our projects and the range of clients we work with can be found on our website.

The successful applicant will be offered a job in our Edinburgh office and will attend University in line with the curriculum.  They will also be entitled to our company pension scheme and other company benefits.
On completion of their Quantity Surveying degree, we will support them towards their Professional Examination to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.

What is the Adventure Academy - A group of pupils from across East Lothian Council  schools who will meet and work together on a range of outdoor adventurous activities including rock-climbing, orienteering, canoeing, kayaking and mountain sports.

When and where - From September 2017  on regular Tuesday evenings 4:30 – 6:30 pm at the Outdoor Learning Service base in Musselburgh.  Monthly and fortnightly Friday afternoons,  occasional weekend days and a Summer expedition in the last week of the year.

Who is it for - Any S2 pupil who wants to be inspired, stretched and challenged by outdoor adventures. It’s for anyone who’s interested in outdoor pursuits as a hobby, or  maybe even considering a future working in the outdoors.
