There are 6 Italian Explorers who have not registered their raffle tickets - please do so this week! There are also a few outstanding payments (recent payment date was Wednesday 24 January) - as indicated at the start of the process, if there are difficulties at any point please contact us in advance so that arrangements can be put in place and/or support provided as required.
By the end of this week (Friday 2 February 2018) you should have returned the following documentation:

- Code of Conduct (some new Explorers were recently issued with this)

Positive Destinations In2Coaching Academy 2018 is a fully funded opportunity that provides a combination of sports based activities and tailored education. We are currently looking to recruit motivated, enthusiastic and reliable young people 16 – 24 years old who have a passion for sport and who would be able to commit to the project for up to 16 hours per week over a 16 week period.
The Coaching Academy provides:
- Sports coaching experience in Football and Athletics
- SCQF Level 5 in Sports Leadership Qualification
- Quality, structured sports coaching sessions and the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity
- The opportunity to volunteer and experience being part of a major sporting event
- Sportscotland “Introduction to Multi-skills” training
- Emergency First Aid at work
- Positive Coaching Scotland training
- Advice and guidance on further education and training opportunities
- Increased confidence and self-esteem
The project will be delivered between February and April 2018 at Bangholm Sports Pavilion, however, city wide travel to alternative venues will be expected over the programme. An information day detailing the project will take place on Tuesday 6th February, 10 am – 12 pm at The Royal Commonwealth Pool, Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh.

Research Scotland is undertaking a vital Pupil Activity Survey to evaluate Activity levels within Schools across the country. It’s important for every S1-S4 pupil to undertake the survey, but we are pleased to say it’s straight forward and only take approx. 10mins. The survey targets S1 to S4 pupils.
Our S4’s will be the 1st to do the survey - Lesson 3 this Thursday.
S1-S3 will do the survey next week during class time tbc.
This engagement will enable Research Scotland to get the most accurate picture of East Lothian and National Activity levels as possible.
We have recently had a few incidents where delivery vehicles could not access the school due to cars parked in the loading bays at the front of the school.
Please could all S6 pupils ensure that they park in the back car park and never in the loading bays

As part of Holocaust Memorial Day 2018 all S5/S6 pupils should go to the Assembly Hall at the start of Period 2 on Friday 26 January to hear a survivor webcast. The event will be led by Phoebe Hayman and Fergus Dickson who visited Auschwitz and Birkenau earlier in the session.

After an extremely successful first year, Dundee Dental School are opening their doors again to potential undergraduate applicants who are hoping to gain further insight and experience into the world of dentistry.
This unique 3 day programme will be running from 25th-27th June and will give S5 students the opportunity to shadow current students within the dental hospital, gain hands on experience in the phantom head room and labs, and also receive talks about the application process with current students reflecting on their experiences of applying to dental school.
Eligibility
To be eligible the pupil MUST:
· Be a secondary school pupil studying in Scotland
· Be in S5
· Be on track to achieve the minimum entrance requirements to study dentistry at the University of Dundee which can be found at http://www.dundee.ac.uk/study/ug/dentistry/#info-entry-requirements
· Provide a suitable reference from a teacher stating why this pupil would be a good candidate for this course which should be emailed directly at dentalinsight@dundee.ac.uk
· Show a keen interest in attending dental insight and motivation to study dentistry.

Senior Choir rehearsals take place every Wednesday after school in the Music Department. All pupils in S3-S6 are welcome to attend, as well as any interested members of staff!
Sample kit (AKUMA) has arrived and is in the Active Schools Office. Make sure to come in today, or Thurs, to make sure you get the right size / fit. The junior kit is the same design as shown but in Blue predominantly.

Those that attend girl's rugby please note there are no sessions running this week: this includes curriculum time rugby (Tues); morning fitness (Wed); and after school session (Thurs).
There will be a meeting for all those that attend on Thursday after school (this will run for around 10-15 minutes) in the PE classroom.
Running club will not be starting this week. It will instead start again on Thursday 18th January.
Given the change in time for the school day ending, the start time will be 4.00pm not 4.15pm.
