S2 Italian Explorers and their parents/carers are warmly invited to our parents' meeting to be held on Wednesday 4 May 2016 at 7 pm in the Social Area.  This meeting as indicated in the letter sent out earlier in the year will permit final excursion arrangements to be communicated, and the opportunity for any additional questions to be answered.

After the meeting it will be possible to make payments towards spending money with Mr Dempster, and discuss any medical concerns with Mrs Ball.

The meeting on Friday 29 April 2016 at break to reflect on our Italian memories will go ahead as planned.

For various reasons, you will now receive 2 DVDs; and in addition an A3 copy of the Italy 2015 photographic collage.

We will meet again next Friday 6 May 2016 for the release of the main feature!

Assistance Required: Help to print the face of the second DVD would be appreciated early next week.

Please note that the next (and final) Parent's Meeting for those on the Iceland Excursion will be held on Thursday 5th May 2016 at 5pm. The meeting will be held in Mr Murdoch's Computing Room M1.12. All parents and pupils must attend this meeting as the final itinerary and arrangements will be shared. Passports and Health Cards must be handed in at this meeting if not already done.

The month of May is Vet Nurse Awareness Month.  A vet nurse will be visiting Knox on Tuesday 3 May 2016 at 2 pm.  If you would like to find out more about becoming a vet nurse or what other opportunities there are to work with animals, please give your name to your Guidance Teacher.  If you are on exam leave but would still like to attend, please let your Guidance teacher know.

S6 who are attending the paintballing session on Thursday 28 April should be aware of the following:

  • Please go to the Food Court at 8.45am on Thursday morning to register for the paintball trip.   Bus leaves at 9.00 am returning to school by 4.00 pm.
  • Please bring a packed lunch however drinks, sweets and crisps are available to purchase onsite. 
  • Please wear old, comfortable clothes.  Overalls will be provided.   It is recommended that players wear boots with ankle support and deep tread/rubber sole as it can be wet, muddy and slippery in the woodland, wellie boots are also an option.

After the success of this year's Poppy Scotland collection in the Haddington area (we raised almost £4,500) we are looking for volunteers from this year's S5 to form the group for next session.

This year's Poppy Scotland Volunteer Gathering takes place in Stirling on Saturday 23 April and there are 2 places available for Knox pupils.

All S6 pupils must go to the assembly hall at the start of Wednesday (20th April) lunchtime. 

The whole year photo will be taken for the yearbook. There will also be the opportunity to have friendship group taken, if you wish to stay after the group picture.

Pupils must be in full dress code, with a blazer and the correct shoes.

Developing the Young Workforce is hosting a Jobs Roadshow on Monday 25 April at the Corn Exchange in Haddington.  Knox Academy has been allocated the 1 pm slot.

This is an excellent opportunity to meet with employers advertising live jobs, apprenticeships and intern opportunities across a variety of industries.

The Jericho re-opens it door this Saturday 16th April  at 7.15pm. 

There will be all the usual things on offer plus a Giant Jenga competition and making candle holders out of tin cans – this involves hammers, nails, tins, sand and spray paint – so calling all 12 – 16 year olds - come along and join in the fun.  Free snacks available.

Apprentice Parts Advisor:

  • You will be based within a parts department, involved in giving customer advice, ordering required parts, components or accessories and updating computer systems.
  • Basic motor vehicle technology will be a part of the course as well as telephone and sales techniques.
  • You must have or expect to gain Standard Grade English, Maths, and an Admin or Computer Studies subject, at Credit or General Level or National 4 or above, Intermediates are also accepted.
  • It is essential that you are literate, numerate, reliable and keen to learn.
  • You will train through GTG to SVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Parts Distribution.

Apprentice Vehicle Technician:

  • You will train in all aspects of motor vehicle repair and maintenance including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhaul of major components and electrical fault diagnostics.
  • You must have or expect to gain Standard Grade English, Maths, Technical Studies or Craft & Design at Credit or General Level or National 4 or above, Intermediates are also accepted.
  • It is essential that you are literate, numerate, reliable and keen to learn. • You will train through GTG to SVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
