Pupils must now have their Young Scot card to borrow and reserve library materials. This is in line with East Lothian Libraries policy.

Pupils who have lost or have a damaged Young Scot card should see Mr Plain as soon as possible, where other arrangements can be made.

The School Council met at the beginning of December with plenty of progress being made throughout the month.

We discussed the possibility of having various radio shows being played throughout lunchtimes. It was mentioned that we should cover a range of different stations so as to incorporate a wider range of musical genres. It was brought up that whilst most prefects are fulfilling there duties to an excellent standard, there are a few who are consistently forgetting to carry their duties out. We also went on to talk about Religious Assemblies and the desire to invite speakers from all different faiths.

We consulted the results of the Dress Code Survey, with a new dress code being introduced at the beginning of term in January (click here for details). S5 House Captain Finlay Munro put alot of time and effort into the survey and the council are very appreciative of this.

In February the School Council will host an assembly which will document the changes and proposed changes that we are making to the School.

Maths in the Pipeline was an interesting experience.

We left school with Mr Barclay at 7.30am and travelled to Heriot Watt University where we arrived an hour later.   We were each allocated to a different team with fourth year pupils from other Lothian schools.   In our teams we worked on maths problems that we would face if we were involved in the oil industry.   There were professionals from the oil industry present who described the work they do and how they use maths every day in their work.   It was very fascinating to learn about the oil industry and the methods they use to extract oil.   We all enjoyed the experience, learned how important maths is in the oil industry and had some fun too.   Carla had the bonus of receiving a medal for being part of the winning team.

Knox's Nightmare Before Christmas was adapted from an original story by Tim Burton, much-loved by the cast and crew. The show, on the 17th and 18th December, featured Jack Skellington’s journey of discovery, creepy choral singing, demonic dancing and some unrequited love. Every cast member had an opportunity to shine and was a credit to Academy Productions. The Junior Drama Club's presentation – The Tale of Cinders, was an excellent pre-show addition to the evenings. We were treated to a new twist on the tale that involved the Seven Deadly Sins and their contribution to this tale of love overcoming all. Special mention has to go to Conor McHugh in S6 who did an amazing job as Jack Skellington and led the production admirably in the role of protagonist.

It's been a real privilege to work with such motivated, resilient pupils who have made the rehearsal and production process a pleasure.

Every year I look forward to the very large and fine display of Christmas boxes which tutor groups decorate and generously fill with goodies. These boxes are then distributed to some of the older members of our community.

This year I was not disappointed as there was an excellent variety of boxes with the theme of simply “Christmas”. This gave everyone the opportunity to let their imaginations run wild! The effort and thought were there for all to see.

Well done everyone for all your efforts and the lovely display of the boxes. The joy that they bring to those that receive them makes everyone's efforts so worthwhile.

Overall Winner : 3G1

House Winners: Garleton 1G2, Lammerlaw 2L1, Traprain 2T3

Highly Commended: 5L2, 6L3

Judges Special Mention: 1G1, 6G1.
