Maths in the Pipeline was an interesting experience.
We left school with Mr Barclay at 7.30am and travelled to Heriot Watt University where we arrived an hour later. We were each allocated to a different team with fourth year pupils from other Lothian schools. In our teams we worked on maths problems that we would face if we were involved in the oil industry. There were professionals from the oil industry present who described the work they do and how they use maths every day in their work. It was very fascinating to learn about the oil industry and the methods they use to extract oil. We all enjoyed the experience, learned how important maths is in the oil industry and had some fun too. Carla had the bonus of receiving a medal for being part of the winning team.
Anna Heawood, Carla Jack, Annabel Jackson and Naomi Rogers.
