It was great to get back into a routine this week. There were many lively stories that pupils told of snowdrifts, snowmen and snowball fights but also loneliness. It has to be remembered that for young people with autism 3 days without familiar routine and contact with trusted adults and a peer group can be very isolating and challenging, especially in rural communities. While the internet may offer respite from extended periods of isolation there is nothing like being surrounded by those with whom we are comfortable. I hope that this is something we all bear in mind as we continue to develop strategic pathways to progression for inclusion at all levels – in school and the wider community. Read more here...Meadowpark Newsletter 09.03.18

We are excited to be launching Show My Homework, a new way to record and communicate homework at Knox Academy.  This is an online tool to help you keep track of your child’s homework. Show My Homework will allow you to see the details of the tasks your child has been set, all their deadlines and their submission status. We have decided to introduce this system to improve the way we communicate with parents and to give you access to the homework we set. This system will replace the school planner, which many of our young people do not use effectively.

You will be provided with login details to your personal account. This is linked to your child’s homework calendar where you will be able to see your child’s To-do List and any homework that is overdue. These logins will be sent out shortly.

To view all homework set without login details please visit our website www.ka-net.org.uk  the link for Show My Homework is on our Homepage. This will be available from the week beginning 19 March 2018.  Please note you will need to use the filter options at the top of the page to find your child’s homework.

This online tool should provide you with a number of benefits including:

  • 24/7 access
  • Ability to view quality and quantity of homework
  • Translation into over 50 languages
  • Apps available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android devices
  • Automated notifications before homework is due

We’ll be launching Show My Homework to pupils during the week beginning 12 March 2018 and we hope that this service will provide parents with a deeper insight into the homework your child receives. More importantly, we hope that it will improve your child’s organisation and time-management and will help them to keep on top of their workload.

To keep up to date on the move please download the Show My Homework app once you receive your login details. You will then be sent push notifications to let you know what homework is due. More information will be available on this on the school website shortly.

If you have any questions about the service, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team at Show My Homework, who are always happy to help. Just visit help.showmyhomework.co.uk or call 0207 197 9550.

If you’d like to get in touch with the school or provide feedback, please contact Mrs C Falconer (DHT).

Thank you once again for your support.

HM Inspectors from Education Scotland will be visiting us to conduct a continuing engagement visit during the week commencing Monday 19 March 2018. This visit is one year on from the publication of the Summarised Inspection Findings, following the inspection of Knox Academy in December 2016. You can find out more about inspection from the Inspection and review documentation pages of Education Scotland’s website.

As part of the inspection, Inspectors gather the views of stakeholders via an SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED which is available now.

I would like to encourage you to complete the survey.  Inspectors will also be meeting with groups of parents during the continuing engagement visit so to be part of that discussion you should complete the survey with additional links provided to indicate your interest in taking part.

You should complete the survey by 12 noon on Thursday 15 March 2018 for one child or for each of your children in attendance.

Kind regards

Lauren Rodger
Headteacher

From wide consultation with members of the school community, it is clear that Ambition, Respect and Community really matter to us here at Knox Academy.

***   AMBITION   ***   RESPECT   ***   COMMUNITY   ***

We have been talking about these values in assemblies, registration classes, lessons and in the wider school. Pupils have been thinking about what the values really mean to them as they go about their daily business in school.

The following resources are now available on the school website under Course Choice:

  • S3 Course Choice Booklet
  • S3 Course Choice Form
  • Catalogue of Alternative Courses
