The first East Lothian Youth Summit 2018 took place at the Brunton Hall on Wednesday 7 March 2018. This inaugural summit will hopefully create a benchmark for youth engagement across Scotland, and lay the foundations for a proposed bi-annual event.

Since our aim is ensure we acknowledge the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, we want to build an approach to engaging with children and young people which is co-productive, dynamic and responsive to ensure that all of the their voices, and their communities, are heard.  We have a duty to collaborate with young people and allow this co-working to inform the education service as set out in the ongoing development improvement plan. The information generated on the day will influence the new cycle of East Lothian planning in 2018.

The idea was to spark on-going conversations that generate 'Ideas for Change, and Ideas for Action' that East Lothian can pledge on.  The feedback from young people, facilitators and adult helpers was very positive and, excitingly, some initiatives have already progressed from the ideas that were generated.

A summary of the day can be found in the East Lothian Youth Summit Summary - ‘Ideas for Change, and Ideas for Action’.

East Lothian Council invites comments on the draft school session dates for 2019/2020.

Comments can be made through the East Lothian Consultation Hub between 27 March 2018 and 4 May 2018.

The consultation on the draft school session dates for 2019/2020 is to seek stakeholder views.  Our neighbouring authorities, City of Edinburgh Council and Midlothian Council have set, or are in the process of setting, their session dates and these dates are available on the respective websites.  The East Lothian Council draft dates for 2019/2020 have taken cognises of our neighbouring authority dates and very much align with City of Edinburgh Council dates.

We delighted to announce that, since November, we’ve raised £229 for the School of Rugby through the Co-op Local Community Fund Charities Programme. Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up so far! This will go towards new training kit for the players – rugby balls are always needed and expensive – as well as essential first aid for games. We’re part of the scheme until October 2018 so please consider nominating us as your local charity as there’s still time for us to raise more and make a huge difference to the School of Rugby boys and girls at Knox Academy.

All you have to do is sign up to become a Co-op Member and shop at the Co-op. If you are already a member, visit https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes/16298 and nominate Haddington School of Rugby as your local charity. And if not, it’s straight forward to join, costs you nothing AND, as well as raising money for the School of Rugby, you earn points to spend in store every time you shop. You can find out how to sign up here: www.coop.co.uk/membership.
