We welcomed Meadowpark pupils back this week just as the builders were getting ready to leave. Work has continued throughout the summer to prepare the remaining two classrooms for use. We have engaged with staff and pupils which has allowed us to make minor changes to the layout and furnishings of the new rooms. Both are south facing and so will get a lot of natural light, and the new windows will help with noise reduction and insulation in winter. We have also opted for carpet on the floors in place of linoleum, and the use of the sound proofing system has been so effective in the original classes that this has been installed as a matter of course. Contractors are not quite finished and so the two classes remain out of bounds, but to know that the rear corridor is insulated, warm, and attractive has generated a greater sense of ownership for all. This morning in registration S1 pupils received an S1 Technologies Letter from Miss Cook.
There will be some timetabling changes leading to an increased number of science lessons for S1, until the recruitment of a new Technologies teacher is possible.
Knox Academy staff warmly welcome Susan Cook to the school as she takes up her new leadership position as Head Teacher.
We look forward to seeing all our students again, including our new S1s, after the summer holidays on Wednesday 15 August 2018.
The EMA Application process for the 2018/19 School Session is now open, the application form and guidance notes can now be downloaded.
Applications must be received by 30 September 2018 in order for the payments to be backdated to the start of term.

Well we have made it to the end of term and thank goodness for the extraordinarily good weather we have had this week. This week temperatures reached 26’-28’ and all young people have had lots of planned opportunities to be outside learning numeracy, literacy and health and well-being through experiential learning – measuring, predicting, counting, observing, talking and listening. Our young people have also been advised on how to self-regulate in the heat as many do not recognise when they are over-heating and we have had to be quite insistent on removing heavy black jumpers and sweatshirts, encouraging pupils to play, read, and cool down under the shelter and ensuring that they are all drinking plenty of fluids. The venue for the S6 Leavers' Dance 2019 is Eskmills, Musselburgh. The total cost of Leavers will therefore be £72.00, however, please be aware this is subject to change as it is based on an estimated number of people attending the event. The following is included in the price : transport to the venue only, a 3 course meal, drink on arrival, sweetie cart, photo booth (prints not included) & DJ entertainment.
