TEAM TORTUGA - FINAL UPDATE

Well, this is our last night in the Honduras...sad times :( we've all had an amazing time.

Last week we completed our Helping Honduras Kids project. The project was great and we all built really good relationships with the kids. Some of the kids stories are really sad, yet they were all so cheery. We did lots of tasks but our main job was to help with the building of a new multi purpose classroom at the back of the school. We also had the chance to teach a lesson to the pupils as well as walking into the jungle to drop off food parcels to some local families. It was quite a sad experience as some of the houses were just a few pieces of scrap metal thrown together. They had no electricity or toilets. On the Thursday we visited the Hogar de Amor in la ceiba where we played games with the kids. We then went to the beach to play volley ball and play in the sea with the kids.

Friday was great fun - White water rafting! The weather was super and we got to see some cool parts of pico bonito national park. We did several grade 3 rapids. It was quite funny when Yve, Robin and Anya's raft flipped over...probably not for them though. We finished the day jumping off ledges in the river.

On Saturday the day came we had all been waiting for - grow-a-tan in Roatan. Words cannot describe how beautiful this paradise Caribbean island is. We spent Saturday afternoon sunbathing on half moon bay. On Sunday we went snorkelling in the coral reefs off the coast. In the afternoon we got to swim with dolphins. It was so good. They could do some pretty cool tricks. On Sunday we were lucky enough to get exclusive access to a private island off the coast called Maya key.  A local lady had heard about the good work we had done so allowed us on for free. There was a pool, beach and animal collection. Some of us got to hold monkeys. We finished off the day with a pretty expensive meal in west bay. Many of us had lobster. It was tasty. The sunset was nice.

So...in less than 24 hours we'll be on our flight home. It's been great - we're sad to be leaving.
