24 February 2017

Firstly, some sporting news about a former pupil: Iain Trotter. He writes, “I've recently turned professional at boxing after a 50 fight amateur career, winning various titles and representing Scotland. I'm now looking to build a solid base of support at home and to spread word about my upcoming, televised, second pro fight on the 24th of March at Meadowbank Stadium, on Josh Taylor's Commonwealth title undercard. Tickets are priced £40, £60 and £100. I started training at 13 and fighting at 17. I had 50 amateur fights winning 35, boxing throughout Britain. I earned a silver medal in the Scottish Novice Championship and then went on to win gold in the Scottish Intermediate Championship, followed by two golds in the Eastern District Championships. I was the first senior champion out of Haddington and was part of the Scotland boxing team representing them. I am now trained by Billy Nelson who trained various champions, the most notable would be current World Champion, Ricky Burns.” It’s wonderful to hear about Iain’s success and I look forward to hearing how he does.

The results for this year’s East Lothian Cross Country are now in. Congratulations to everyone that represented the school in what proved to be a keenly contested event. The staff that went in support of the Knox Running Team were very impressed by the general level of effort and of how supportive the team members were of each other.

Last night we had a very positive evening for parents of new S1, entitled “WE R Listening”. It was not only an opportunity for parents to come in to hear about how we feel their children have settled in, but was also an opportunity to get feedback from parents about how we have done. The information that we got will be feeding into our School Improvement Plan, so we are really grateful to all the parents who were able to make it.

Can I remind parents that we are holding a new Coursing Event for S4/5 parents on Tuesday 28 February from 5.00 pm until 6.30 pm in the School Library? This is a drop-in and will give parents an opportunity to speak to our colleagues on a one-to-one basis about pre-vocational courses, College courses, Academies courses, Work Experience and Mentoring programmes. We look forward to seeing you there.

Next Wednesday there is a Parent Council meeting at 6.15pm in the Library. This will be followed by their AGM. Please come along and support if you are able to.

Have a great week.
