As part of our whole school challenge pupils who came to the Faculty took part in a variety of activities to try and win points for their Houses.

These activities included the Maths Training Challenge (on Nintendo DS's), a selection of competitive Cool Maths Games,  strategic puzzles which bizarrely included some dancing(!) and Guitar Hero. The pupils, as usual, were superb and entered into the spirit of it completely. Well done!

Today pupils partipated in the annual school Faculty Challenges.  Pupils in Business Education competed in house teams against others in the Stock Market Challenge.

This is an online simulated trading environment where pupils have to make decisions on shares/currency to buy and sell based on news and radio reports broadcast through throughout the simualtion.

After a battle between all the teams and various teams holding the top position throughout the challenge period (that's the nature of the stock market!) house points were awarded as follows.

  • 1st Lammerlaw
  • 2nd Garleton
  • 3rd Traprain

On Tuesday, the School Council met during first period for their scheduled monthly meeting. We first discussed any progress that had been made in the various areas we spoke about at our previous meeting. The queuing issue that was occuring in the food court, for instance, is still being worked on with the idea that more prefects could be used to minimise congestion within the food court. We also were able to decide that some issues were not to be taken any further such as a wireless internet facility along with a new football kit for the school.

We then looked at any issues from individual year groups. S4 council members spoke about the fact that pupils were being turned back when using the social subjects corridor, the S6 leadership team will bring this up prefects concerned. S5's spoke about the timing of the next dress down day, as there was some confusion as to when it was suggested it would take place. The S6 members spoke about the fact that they did not seem to be getting as much as they had hoped from the new library charter. The Deputy Head Boy and Girl spoke to Mr Plain who will pass the information on and get back to them after the October break.

The whole council were very positive about the Dress Code survey that a few of us had created. We also agreed that the idea of an extended registration would create enough time to carry out the survey. The house news section of the website is yet to be updated. Everyone who volunteered to update the House News section agreed that the priority for this week is to source House News. A faculty challenge event will be taking place period 3 on Friday. We realise that this is a fantastic opportunity to promote a positive ethos, so everyone is very excited to take part!

There are 5 pupils from the School Council taking part in a trip to the Czech Republic alongside Mr Jappy and Ms Cochrane. The trip will last a week and pupils will visit a school and learn about the culture. We also discussed the succesful ethos competition and ways of promoting pupils achievements through the food court radio. Our Heads of House and Sports Ambassadors are looking into the prospect of holding a Sports Personality of the Year at some point for our sporting heros within the school. Finally, to fundraise for the school, we are looking into the possibility of trying to break a world record!

Haddington Business Association, Community Council, Amenity Society (HADAS) and History Society have joined forces to prepare a vision for a bright future for Haddington town.

The aim is to make Haddington town centre a better place to live, work and visit – and to draw up a vision and action plan to achieve this over the next 10-20 years.

The project launched the ‘Vision for Haddington’ proposals on Monday 1 October.  The final Vision Reports - four in all - can be studied by clicking on the links below or are available in the John Gray Centre (in hard copy format).

Knox Academy pupils (Ben Nisbet, Lyndsey Herkes and Graham Crowson) helped serve drinks and canapes and welcomed people to the event - they were all a credit to Knox.
