A message from East Lothian Social Enterprise...

Fiona Ogg has developed an amazing idea for a website for young people and is hoping to pitch her idea to Richard Branson soon. Fiona is beginning to work with Knox youngsters quite soon too. The idea is all about transformation for young people and will change the lives of young people in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Please view the film here.

Fiona needs around 265 votes to be in with the chance of pitching her idea and voting reopens once more today (Monday 18th) and closes on Wednesday at 5.00 pm.  I am wondering if you could pop on view the film pitch and vote for her but also I am wondering if you could possibly send the link around the teachers and ask them to vote too.  Also I am wondering if you know of any people who would vote for this idea and if so would you please send the link to them? Any help would be great and I know Fiona would be thrilled as it could be a game changer given the investment from Branson and his team and the feeling is that Richard Branson loves ideas around entrepreneurship and young people.

Fiona has set up a Facebook (Hangout HQ) and Twitter profile and was features in Edinburgh Evening News last week and the Courier this week. East Lothian Council are on board and will be passing round an e-bulletin to staff asking them to vote and they are allowing Fiona into John Muir House to speak with staff on Monday and Tuesday. This story will generate more media interest so she would like to mention Knox Academy as being a supporter.

The voting link is here and closes at 5 pm today.

We really appreciate your help with this and really hoping that as many people as get behind her.

After the huge success of the School of Rugby for pupils in S1 and S2 over the past three years, Knox Academy has secured extra funding from the SRU to expand this initiative through every year in the school. Even better news is that this is being replicated in every school across East Lothian and many in Edinburgh in a real push to grow the game and get Scottish Rugby back to where we all want it to be.

Haddington Rugby Club and Knox Academy have worked in partnership on this initiative and formed Haddington Rugby to give the school teams a stronger identity with the community they represent.

In order for this exciting initiative to be successful and really help strengthen rugby in our community and across Scotland, we are looking for new or returning players to come and try rugby and remind themselves what fun it is.

The Rugby World Cup is coming to East Lothian – and your child is invited.

Read more in this letter issued to pupils at registration today.

Note: The letter states that there is a tear off slip to complete and bring along on the night, however the plan now is to hand these slips out on the actual night itself so there is no tear off slip attached.

The second part is open to all and is our Friday night Family Hack Jam between 6-9pm. Parents are encouraged to come in with the children and take part in various workshops.

KASG fundraises all year round and all proceeds go to your children. The Committee would like your help and support with the following:

The Duck Derby is on Wednesday 3rd June at 7p.m. at Ball Ally. Ducks cost £1.

Teas in the Park at Neilson Park on Saturday 6th June .

How can you help us at Teas in the Park?

Last year we organised a Festival Café at the Neilson Park Fun Day which, thanks to your support, was a great success with the Community and in raising funds for the school.

We have been asked to organise catering at the Fun Day again this year and we will also be having a cake and candy stall and a tombola/bottle stall. We will again need your support to make this venture a success.

If you can supply baking or give some time on the day – even one hour – please contact  Mrs Ball (01620 823 387) at the school. Our busiest time is in the afternoon to serve refreshments and clear tables (2-4pm). If you can manage the tidying up slot of 4–5pm your help will be greatly appreciated!

Your help is greatly appreciated !
