East Lothian Council are changing the way we bank, meaning that Knox Academy will only have one bank account.

Consequentially all cheques received (eg Activities Week) must now be made payable to East Lothian Council and not the Knox Academy GP Fund as was the case previously.

We have some exciting news... our application has been successful and Knox Academy is the only school in Scotland taking part in the National Theatre of Scotland Exchange 2012 programme at the Macroberts Arts Centre, Stirling from the 2nd to the 7th July 2012. This is an amazing, fully funded, opportunity for our senior students to create a piece of theatre in association with the National Theatre of Scotland and be part of this week long festival.

We are one of eight groups (6 from Scotland (the other 5 are Theatre Companies) and 2 International) that will devise a piece of theatre lasting an hour and that will be shown during Exchange week - with our students taking part in workshops, seeing theatre and meeting like-minded young people from all over the world.

The students involved will work with theatre professionals from all over the UK and take part in quality master classes that will develop their skills in theatre, communication (Both oral and visual) and lifelong skills.

I am sure you will agree that this is an excellent and exciting project. Congratulations to Christopher Thompson, Erin Stewart, Fiona Duncan, Neil Reynolds, David Fairgrieve, Abbie Lindsey, Jocasta Hardie, Lauren Dickson, Sam Turvill, Joy Szymoszowskyj, Simone Samuel , Jordanne Grant, Greg Russell and Beth Revuelta who will all form the NTS company from Knox Academy.

We’ll keep you up to date.

To all parents of S4 pupils - the S4 Work Experience – deadline is fast approaching!

Friday 16 September is the last day that we will be accepting forms for pupils who are finding their own work placement for the Work Experience week, 21 – 25 November this year.

Pupils have been busy approaching employers and getting their Self Found Forms completed in plenty time so that all placements can be Health and Safety checked, but time is running out fast!

This is a plea to parents to discuss Work Experience with your S4 children and make plans together.

There is a database of placements that pupils will be allowed to book from in 2 weeks’ time and you can have a look at the placements now that are on offer by going to: www.workit.info  Your child has a unique username and password. (Please note you cannot reserve placements on the database in advance of the booking week.  Bookings will be done in school.)

Please be aware that there are fewer database placements this year reflecting the current economic situation and choice will be severely limited.  If you and your child would like your own choice of placement then I urge you to be looking for places out with the database.  The relevant forms have been on offer in classes since June, but if you need to request a Self Found Placement form then please contact Miss Easson at school (01620) 823387 or via email.

Thanks to all the pupils and parents who have already submitted forms.

Since it is six years since our last one, we plan to have a whole school photograph taken.

Weather permitting, this will take place on the back field on the morning of Wednesday 14 September.

Parents/Carers are encouraged to ensure that pupils are well turned out in dress code for that day.

Copies will be made available for purchase shortly afterwards.
