A few words from our Careers Adviser....

Hi, I am Jennifer Jones, the Careers Adviser for Knox Academy. The organisation I work for is Skills Development Scotland. I am usually in school all day on a Wednesday and a Thursday morning. Most of this time is spent carrying out 1:1 careers interviews with pupils in S4 – S6.

At their interview pupils have the chance to talk about their career ideas, ask questions and explore their options. I will be asking them lots of questions too!!  At the end of their interview pupils may get a ‘Plan of Action’ with a list of things they need to do. A copy of this is given to their Guidance teacher.

On Thursday 11 August between 10 am and 12 noon, members of the Guidance Team will be in school for pupils who wish to discuss re-coursing options and exam results.

Further details including course choice columns will be made available shortly on this website.

Please be aware that staff are training in school on 15/16 August, however they will not be available on these days for consultation with parents and pupils.

S2 Coursing interviews take place next week for S2 pupils to choose their subjects for S3/4.  Pupils have been informed of their relevant interview time during the period Monday 30 May - Wednesday 1 June 2011.

Course Choice forms should be returned to the school no later than Friday 3 June 2011 (the day before S2/3 Activities Week - especially important to note for pupils on residential excursions!!).

Get Going is a new family healthy lifestyle programme, which aims to encourage children to get active, eat well and work towards a healthy weight.

Who is it for?
The programme is offered by NHS Lothian and is available free of charge to all Lothian families. It’s aimed at children aged 5 -18, who are overweight or obese, and their parents or carers.

Why is a healthy weight important for children?
Children who are overweight tend to grow into overweight adults. A healthy weight reduces the risk of coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis and some cancers.
