Revision Hints

Things you should revise…

  1. Ensure you understand parts of speech: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns…
  2. Revise how to use the following punctuation marks: full stop, question mark, exclamation mark, comma, apostrophe, inverted commas, colon, semi-colon and ellipsis.
  3. Practise using different types of sentences in your writing: simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences, statements, questions and commands.
  4. Revise literary terms: simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhythm, rhyme...
  5. Practise identifying genre, audience and purpose.
  6. Practise using topic sentences to create links and develop line of argument in essays.
  7. Understand the requirements of the various writing forms for the Folio.
  8. Use a dictionary to check unfamiliar words and to widen vocabulary.
  9. Use your jotter and folio work to identify any words which have been misspelt.  Write the correct spelling out three times.
  10. Read quality newspapers and fiction on a regular basis.
