Our Eco-Tip this week is an easy one: turn off the lights! When you leave a room, it's a waste of electricity to leave the lights on and over time, this can cost quite a bit of money. Make an effort to do this in your home and even at school - hold your teachers accountable if they leave a light on in an empty classroom!

Welcome back from the October break! Our Eco-Tip this week involves being more selective with the products you buy. When it comes to buying fruits and vegetables, you can make an effort to buy them loose, rather than packaged in plastic. Unfortunately, most major grocery stores choose to package their fruits and vegetables in plastic wrapping because it is seen as "convenient". However, this is a large source of unnecessary plastic waste! Why are bananas sold in plastic bags? It's outrageous! You can be a more environmental consumer by avoiding this plastic packaging and instead choosing to buy loose products. Also, many local farm shops and markets sell fruits and vegetables completely loose, so keep an eye out for these too!

Our Eco-Tip this week is a simple one and many of you already do it: make an effort to take reusable shopping bags when you go to any store! By doing this, you can significantly reduce the amount of plastic bags going to landfill because they aren't recyclable! Don't be shy to take reusable shopping bags to ALL stores, even clothing stores! Are you ever going to use that TopShop plastic bag again? Probably not. So help the environment and skip the bags!

The Eco-Committee has come up with an excellent list of ways that every member of the school community can lead a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle! Every Tuesday, we'll post a new Eco-Tip to the bulletin for you to discuss in your registration classes and for you to try yourself! If everyone makes an effort to follow these Eco-Tips, we can make a big difference on what we send to landfill!

Our first Eco-Tip is an easy one and it will save you money! Invest in a reusable water bottle and take it with you everywhere you go. Here at Knox, we have several water refill stations to make this easy! Plus, it will save you money since you won't need to buy bottled water any more! Skip the fizzy drinks, save money, and drink water instead!
